Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who guided Singapore's military strategy through an increasingly complex security environment, will retire from politics after over two decades in Cabinet. The five-term MP announced today that he will not be contesting the general election.

In other news, a new "Singapore citizen" has been discovered living on the roadside at the National University of Singapore. Researchers announced the discovery of a new species of mirid, or plant bug, Campylomma singapura, in a research paper published on March 24.
