Hernandez leads fundraising race in Southern Arizona CD7 election

Roughly 17% of voters have cast ballots in special primary for the late Raúl Grijalva's seat ahead of July 15 Election Day

Democrat Daniel Hernandez was leading the fundraising race as five Democrats sprint to the July 15 finish line in the special congressional election that will decide who fills the vacancy left by the death of U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva.

The former state lawmaker reported raising nearly more than $981,000 and had about $37,000 on hand as of June 25, according to an FEC report filed on July 3.

Adelita Grijalva, Raul Grijalva's daughter and a former member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, had raised about $835,000 and still had $128,000 for the final stretch of the race, according to her report.

While the two experienced candidates raised the most money, rookie candidate Deja Foxx brought in just over $600,000, according to her report.
